From January to May this year, The country’s leather and products foreign trade import and export both maintained growth

My country’s leather industry is a typical export-oriented industry, which is highly dependent on foreign markets. Imports are mainly raw materials such as leather products and raw hides and wet blue leather, while exports are mostly shoes and finished products. According to the newly released statistics, from January to May this year, the export value of leather, fur and footwear products in my country reached 28.175 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 37.3% over the same period of the previous year; the import value was 3.862 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 74.5% over the same period last year. . The growth rate of imports was 37.2 percentage points higher than that of exports.

Imports maintained rapid growth. From the perspective of segmented products, the growth rate of manufactured products rebounded significantly. The biggest contributor to imports is still footwear products. From January to May, 104 million pairs of footwear products were imported, with a value of US$2.747 billion, an increase of 21.9% and 47.0% year-on-year respectively. It is worth noting that imports of leather shoes have grown rapidly. From January to May, a total of 28,642,500 pairs of leather shoes were imported, with a value of US$1.095 billion, an increase of 26.7% and 59.8% respectively over the same period of the previous year. The increase in the import volume and import value of leather shoes was 4.8 higher than the total import increase in footwear products. And 12.8 percentage points. Although the low import base last year was an important factor, it still reflects signs of a slight rebound in the demand for leather shoes in the market.

Leather luggage is the second largest imported product. From January to May, the import volume reached 51.305 million, which was US$2.675 billion, an increase of 29.5% and 132.3% respectively over the same period of the previous year.
The third largest category of imported products is raw hides and semi-finished leathers. Driven by multiple factors such as low prices of international raw hides, increased demand in the downstream market, and stocking during low-price periods, imports of raw hides and semi-finished leathers have shown an increase from January to May this year. Among them, imports of raw hides amounted to 557,400 tons with a value of US$514 million, an increase of 13.6% and 22.0% year-on-year respectively; imports of semi-finished leather amounted to US$250,500 and US$441 million, an increase of 20.2% and 33.6% respectively over the same period of the previous year.
